Tony Kelly

Tony is a London-born graduate of Mico Teachers’ College, dedicated 30 years to local and central government, focusing on EDI, before retiring. He holds a master’s degree in socio-legal studies from University of Birmingham. As a diabetes ambassador, Tony educates communities about diabetes while managing his type 2 condition through diet/physical activity. He serves on the National Diabetes Prevention Programme steering group. Tony engages in numerous media interviews, workshops, and community initiatives, emphasising a positive approach to health. Acknowledged in health reviews and publications, Tony’s awards include the British Citizen Award, the Black Honours Award for lifetime achievement, and the British Empire Medal. In January, Warwick University will bestow on him an honorary Doctor of Science. He’s committed to global diabetes awareness, delivering sessions across Jamaica, Dominica, Barbados, and Canada, thus impacting lives through education and advocacy.
