MaryA standout professional football player, with her career seeing her rule the six-yard box for Manchester United Women and representing her country as the goalkeeper for the England national team. Mary took on the role of Vice Captain for the Lionesses in their 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign, a tournament in which she earned the coveted Golden Glove which recognised her phenomenal contribution and excellent skills. This year she has demonstrated unwavering commitment through taking a bold stance against Nike’s discrimination towards the women’s game, whereby they did not release her shirt for the second tournament, adversity that is not experienced in male football. Her powerful public action and subsequent far-reaching petition prompted a significant U-turn from Nike. Her unapologetic ardency to achieve the recognition that she, and women in sports everywhere, deserves created ongoing discourse about celebrating gender equality.
