Ashleigh Nugent is a writer, performer and the Creative Director of RiseUp Community Interest Company. Having left school without qualifications and carrying a criminal record, Ashleigh’s journey was transformed by a love of poetry and education; he later achieved a first-class degree, gained teaching qualifications and produced award-winning creative work that speaks to lived experience. His writing and performances explore resilience, identity and the power of creativity to change lives. As Creative Director of RiseUp CIC, Ashleigh mentors young people, helping them navigate obstacles and realise their potential through arts education and community projects. Now a proud homeowner, husband and father, he uses his story to demonstrate that early setbacks need not define the future and that opportunity, persistence and creativity can create lasting social impact.
