Michael and Wes Johnson-Ellis are the co-founders of My Surrogacy Journey, the UK’s leading non-profit organisation established in 2021 to guide and support intended parents through the surrogacy process. As a same-sex couple who navigated surrogacy themselves, they bring lived experience, empathy and advocacy to their work, making the journey to parenthood safer, more inclusive and accessible. Their advocacy spans LGBTQ+ rights and parental inclusion, including work with the Department of Health and Social Care to implement best-practice guidance for healthcare professionals and campaigning for fertility equality. They have been involved in law reform since 2013, contributing to regulated, safer surrogacy, and supported efforts that enabled people living with HIV to access UK surrogacy. By offering education, community and resources, Michael and Wes champion diverse family structures, challenge outdated norms about who can parent and have helped build over 3,000 families through their commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ parents.
