Tania Stevenson

Tania Stevenson is one of the UK’s most courageous and visible champions of equality in public life. As the country’s only independently elected trans councillor and leader of her council’s independent group, she is reshaping what authentic leadership and inclusive democracy look like in modern Britain. A prominent visible trans public figure, Tania regularly appears in national and international media, speaks at major rallies and gives voice to trans experiences often ignored in public debate. In 2025 she was interviewed on NBC News to challenge growing barriers faced by trans people travelling to the USA, drawing international attention to risks for trans travellers attending World Pride in Washington, DC. Domestically, her ‘Stevenson Memorandum’ — a policy influencing local authorities and public bodies — recommends principled withdrawal from Twitter/X where continued use conflicts with equality, diversity and inclusion values. She also serves as a Tenant Board Member for Tuntum Housing Association, championing affordable housing and social justice. As a proud trans woman and elected leader, Tania’s courage and relentless advocacy make her an inspiring and deserving presence on the 2025 Diversity Power List.
