Kae Tempest is an award-winning poet, spoken-word artist, novelist and musician whose work has reshaped contemporary British literature and performance. Renowned for raw honesty, lyrical brilliance and social consciousness, Tempest emerged from London’s spoken-word scene and fused poetry, hip-hop and theatre to captivate audiences. Their debut poetry collection Hold Your Own and the novel The Bricks That Built the Houses established them as a literary force, while acclaimed albums such as Everybody Down and The Book of Traps and Lessons demonstrated artistic range. A Booker Prize nominee and winner of the Ted Hughes Award for innovation in poetry, Tempest explores identity, belonging and resilience, creating spaces for empathy and reflection. In 2020 they publicly came out as non-binary, strengthening their role as a trailblazer for inclusivity in the arts.
