Dr Layla McCay has been at the forefront of workplace LGBTQ+ inclusion, propelled by her landmark book Breaking the Rainbow Ceiling: How LGBTQ+ People Can Thrive and Succeed at Work. Her research illuminates how LGBTQ+ identity shapes career experiences and provides practical guidance for individuals, colleagues, managers, CEOs and boards to create more inclusive workplaces. Alongside leading the national LGBTQ+ Health and Care Leaders Network and running an active LGBTQ+ staff group within her organisation, Layla engages employers and employees worldwide through workplace visits, public talks and international speaking engagements. Her scholarship and advocacy have advanced understanding at a time when discussions about LGBTQ+ inclusion are increasingly contested, offering rigorous research and clear strategies for meaningful action. Notably, much of this work is undertaken outside her day job, making her influence particularly striking as she helps organisations rethink how everyone can flourish at work.
