Champions of diversity and inclusion across the UK have been named in the 2024Diversity Power List. An honours-style list, it highlights and recognises individuals who are working tirelessly to make a difference to other people’s lives.
Now in its third year, the 2024 Diversity Power List reveals a wealth of individuals, from high profile people through to unsung community heroes, all striving to achieve inclusion and equity for those with one or more diverse characteristics. From celebrating race to offering male allyship, acknowledging LGBTQ rights to understanding neurodiversity, recognising gender choice to embracing mental and physical disability, these individuals are changing the way society behaves.
Recognising the impact of their work, the Diversity Power List features high profile individuals including decorated Paralympian and TV presenter Hannah Cockcroft OBE, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Director of the BBC Proms David Pickard and disability advocate Sophie Morgan. Listed alongside senior leaders championing diversity at well-known organisations including JP Morgan Chase & Co, Amazon and Channel 4, they join an array of inspirational community champions ranging from poets, activists and athletes to authors, charity workers and journalists.
Particularly notable this year is the number of people addressing the unique challenges presented by intersectionality whereby individuals living with more than one protected characteristic often face further discrimination. Achievements in social mobility, harnessing tech and AI to find solutions, support for mid-life women and empowerment of youngsters are also strongly represented in the 2024 Diversity Power List.
“Our annual Diversity Power List highlights the work of extraordinary individuals, many of whom fly under the radar, championing diversity, driving inclusion and striving to achieve equity in society,” says Paul Sesay (pictured above) CEO and founder of Inclusive Companies. “If charity begins at home, then diversity begins in communities among our colleagues, neighbours, friends and peers.
“Lasting change starts small. So often we see one person’s commitment and vision ignite the conversation or spark action before others get behind them,” says Paul. “Not everyone feels able to start a movement but we all have the capacity to support someone else. Time and time again I hear how individuals, colleagues and communities follow the example set by someone who has the courage to set in motion the wheels for positive change. I urge everyone to look at their community, workplace and social circles to see where they can support diversity and inclusion. By coming together, we can achieve tolerance and acceptance to change people’s lives and society for the better.”
